Nice and Thin

No, that is not my body condition, but the condition of hay we have put up the past week. We made a little hay last Wednesday, then went at it over the weekend. I took vacation Monday when I wrote this article with the hope of getting more up, even on Tuesday. So far, the hay has been good quality, but very thin. Maybe it is because we are getting it up a month earlier than normal, or maybe the cool weather we had including freezes that killed back new growth, or more likely, the lack of fertilizer to make the crop grow better. It is my plan to fertilize when first crop is done. Since my youngest can’t work at Wilmington College right now and is home, hay is going up much faster with both tractors running at the same time. Uncle Ermil would be stunned as I was mowing hay on Saturday and texting to the oldest son halfway around the world. We have had some nice weather but when we talked, it was 116° where he is at!
