Wish I Did, Wish I Didn’t

I am writing this article Monday morning, and the title tells you how I felt over the weekend as I wondered if I should have mowed hay down. I didn’t because I didn’t get home early enough on Friday, and it called for rain Sunday. I was glad I didn’t on Saturday when we had two light showers, then wished I did when the sun was out on Sunday. The rule I have gone by for years is when in doubt, mow the hay. I am still a little more leery early in the process, and I get more aggressive as the season and my nerves wear on. If it doesn’t rain much today (Monday), I will mow some down and try to get it up Wednesday. It could be worse, I remember two years ago finishing up first cutting on July 22 and putting up some second cutting July 23! Let’s hope we can get hay up sooner this year. As I was traveling home Friday from Mt. Sterling below Columbus, it was nice to note that most of the crops are now in the ground, and many are up in various stages.
