It’s Monday evening at Creno’s Pizza, and I arrive just in time to watch the homeward-bound traffic on SR 60. The atmosphere tonight is cool and relaxed; sports coverage plays on the TV while indistinct, but lively banter from the kitchen babbles behind the partition. A young lady takes my order as I sit down, then quickly returns with food for the family behind me. Their chatter fades with the mark of a meal too savory to suspend for talk.

It is just one of many evenings Creno’s McConnelsville’s branch has had since its opening last November, but this evening is my first. Creno’s is one of the latest in the recent influx of establishments to open in the McConnelsville/Malta area. So when owners David and Jennifer Pugh invited me to share their restaurant’s story, I came with pen and menu in hand. As it turns out, their story was a few decades in the making.
