The in-person community forum that had been scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 6, to discuss the mascot has been canceled due to the expectation of overwhelming numbers. Instead, the district will be seeking input from community members in several ways - through email, snail mail, or online survey.

District leaders cited concerns in maintaining safety and social distancing as the main drivers of the decision, as hundreds of people were expected to flood the district to weigh in on the controversial issue. Concerns have been raised that the Raider mascot represented John Hunt Morgan, a confederate general who conducted raids throughout Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana. An article that appeared in The Herald at the time did not state that the mascot was directly related to the general, and a statement from county engineer Steve Hook at the September board meeting indicated that he was student body president at the time, and to his knowledge there was not a direct link between the general and the selection of the mascot.
