When the new Morgan County Dog Pound was opened recently at 43 Church Drive east of McConnelsville on State Route 60, the hopes and dreams of many in the community were realized.

“We all knew that the current dog pound on SR 376 was inadequate in meeting our needs. We explored everything from renovating that facility to building a new dog pound,” said Morgan County Commissioner Adam Shriver. “We were all doing the best with what we had but it was a struggle, especially in the tough winter months,” said Becky Thompson, who has been Morgan County Dog Warden for 11 years. After researching different options and reviewing bids for the various proposals, all parties came to the conclusion that constructing a new building was cost prohibitive for the county and began looking for other suitable but less costly solutions.
