In the JK Jones Building, high above Main Street, is one of Morgan County’s best-kept secrets. Naturally, I had to write about it.

On the third floor resides the hospitality furniture business, Contraxx Furniture. It boasts an extensive and beautiful portfolio, but perhaps its best work sample is the workspace itself. The pristine, lofty interior seamlessly blends monochrome minimalism with russet folk furnishings, instilling the old building with new life. Though the interior may look like a New York studio, its DNA is quintessentially Appalachian. Century-old photographs of downtown McConnelsville, the Chautauqua, and Wabash Railroad hang boldly on its sparse white walls. The latter two exist only in memory now, but the town is remarkably unchanged.
