Lions Club Breakfast

Health Department to hold mandatory Sewage Installers meeting

The Morgan County Health Department will hold a MANDATORY meeting for the Sewage Installers that did not attend the December 5 meeting. It is REQUIRED that you attend or WILL NOT be issued a 2020 permit to install. This REQUIRED meeting will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2019.

Seniors Christmas Dinner

Morgan County Council on Aging and the Office on Aging will have its annual Christmas Dinner at 12 noon Thursday, Dec. 19, at the Masonic Lodge in McConnelsville. Everyone 60 and older is invited to come and enjoy the day. Please RSVP no later than December 16 at 740-962-5600.

Habitat Auction

The 15th Annual Habitat For Humanity Gift and Tree Auction will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at the Stockport Mill in Stockport. A $7.50 cover fee will be charged at the door for the appetizer buffet and auction. “This is an evening of teamwork, food and fun for everyone,” stated a spokesperson. For the last two years, the auction raised funds to help build a house in Malta for a deserving family. See ad on Page 7A for more information.

Christmas Open House

The Morgan County Community of the Arts, located in the historic Dover House on Main Street in McConnelsville, will hold a Christmas Open House from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12. Popular keyboardist, Michael Tobar, will perform. The Dover House will be decorated for the Christmas season, and the Gift Shop will offer a variety of art works by local artists for sale. Stop by, greet your friends, enjoy the music, and find a unique gift for that special person.

Herald Closing for Holidays

A consortium of churches in Morgan County continue to offer a free meal the last Saturday of each month. This meal will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at Trinity United Methodist Church in McConnelsville. Members of McKendree UMC will be serving. All are welcome to attend.

Flushing Hydrants

The Village of Chesterhill will be flushing hydrants from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., from Wednesday, Nov. 6 through Friday, Nov. 15. Residents may experience lower water pressure and discoloration of water while flushing in your neighborhood. If you have discolored water, you are advised to run cold water until the water is clear. This is an important part of system maintenance.

South Elementary Patriotic Concert

Morgan South Elementary’s Music Program will present a patriotic concert entitled “Because You Are Our Heroes.” The concert will feature the students of Mrs. Young and Miss Rishel, fifth grade; Mrs. Jenne, fourth grade; Mrs. McDermott, third grade; and Miss Latture, second grade. Drug Take Back

On Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m, the Morgan County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration will give the public its 18th opportunity in nine years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your pills for disposal to the Morgan County Sheriff's Office at 37 East Main St., McConnelsville. (Sites cannot accept liquids, needles or sharps, only pills or patches.) Just pull up into the alley beside the Sheriff's Office, and a deputy will help you with your disposal. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

General Election Forum

This Thursday, October 24, is the forum for school board candidates and countywide levy issues in Morgan County to present their platforms and answer questions from the public. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the first presentation at 6 p.m., followed by questions. The event will be held in the meeting room of The Kate Love Simpson Library and is open to the public. SR 266 Culvert Replacement

A culvert replacement project begins on October 23 on SR 266 in Morgan County. The project is taking place between Stockport and SR 792. The road will be closed in this area through November 12. ODOT's detour is SR 266 to SR 60 to SR 37 to SR 78 to SR 377 to SR 266.
