Flag Disposal Ceremony

The Malconta American Legion Post No. 24 will hold its annual flag disposal ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday, June 14, at the Wharf Lot in McCon­nelsville. This ceremony is conducted annually to properly dispose of flags that are no longer serviceable. The public is invited to come out and witness this dignified ceremony where the flags of our nation are honorably retired.

Merchant Marines Pesentation

The Silver Heels Trail/Mary Bird Lake Chapter of the U.S. Daughters of 1812 are presenting a program on the United States Merchant Marines. The event will be held at the Kate Love Simpson Library at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 16, and is open to the public.

Parmiter Rd. Slip Repair

UPDATE (5/15): Trustee Hann says a culvert will be installed starting at 8 a.m. Thursday, May 16. Parmiter Road will be closed to traffic until its completion. Hann is estimating the work will only take a few hours.

Stockport VFD Steak Fry

The Stockport Volunteer Fire Department’s Annual Mother’s Day Steak Fry will run from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 11. The meal will consist of New York Strip for the adults, for $13, and the kids’ meal is $5 for a steakburger and fries. Local deliveries are available after 4:30 p.m. Call 740-559-2311.

Landslide Closes One Lane of SR 676

According to Ashley Rittenhouse, Public Information Officer for ODOT District 10, one lane of State Route 676 has been closed in Washington County due to a landslide. It is located between Tabor Ridge Road (Township Road 466) and State Route 792. Temporary traffic signals and a 14-foot width restriction are in place in this area.

Free Community Meal

A consortium of churches in Morgan County continue to offer a free meal on the last Saturday of each month. This meal will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at Trinity United Methodist Church in McConnelsville. Members of Pisgah UMC will be serving. All are welcome to attend. Contact Rev. Free Recycling Training

Stop the Bleed Program

The Morgan County Health Department will be holding a Stop the Bleed program. Registration and dinner will start at 5 p.m. and the class will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday (today), April 24, at the Riecker Building. Kiwanis Blood Testing

The M-M Kiwanis Club will hold its Annual Preventive Health Testing Program, for area residents, from 7 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Riecker Building. Over 30 tests will be performed from a small blood sample. The cost for all 30 tests is $45. Optional PSA tests, thyroid panel tests and hemoglobin tests are also being offered for $30 each. Do not eat or drink anything but water following the preceding evening meal. No smoking on the morning of the test. Bring your physician’s name and address. The results will be sent to the doctor as well as to you.

Easter Egg Hunt

The VFW and Auxiliary will hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at the Commons, in McConnelsville. This is a free event for kids ages one to 10 years old, and there will be prizes.

Crews Paving N. Parmiter Rd.

According to Morgan County Engineer Steve Hook, weather permitting, crews are blacktopping a one-and-one-quarter-mile stretch of Township Road 212, Parmiter Road, this week. This section of Parmiter Road is in Morgan and Center Town­ships. The project is being funded by last year’s Issue One monies.

SR 60 at Zanesville Closure

Motorists going north on SR 60 are being alerted to a road closure. Zanesville city spokesman said beginning Friday, April 12, the southbound lane of Wayne Avenue (SR 60) will be closed from Marietta Street to the city limits near the bridge (SR 719). The southbound lane will be closed until further notice due to a slip in the highway. Detours will be posted.

Passion play 'The Rescue'

The Twin City Opera House, in McConnelsville, will once again come alive with the sights and sounds of ancient Israel, as the cast of the 2019 Passion play, The Rescue, prepares to take the stage at 7 p.m. Thursday and Saturday, April 11, 13, and again at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 14. This is the group’s sixth year in bringing the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the Twin City Opera House in McConnelsville.

South 31 & Gift Card Bingo

Morgan South PTO is having a 31 and gift card bingo on Friday, April 12. The doors will open at 5 p.m. There will be vendors, concessions, 50-50 drawings, and a country store. Early bird tickets on sale now for a special bag and are $20 each. You may purchase a ticket at the door for $25. Prizes include 31 bags and other donations from the community as well as second chance drawings.

Polling Places Changes

The Morgan County Board of Elections has voted to change the voting location for the residents of East Bloom Township as well as the residents of West Bloom, and Deerfield Townships. Voters from East Bloom will now vote at the Senior Citizens Building, located at 10 W. Main Street, McCon­nelsville OH 43756, instead of the Tunnel Hill School House, located on SR 376. Voters from West Bloom/Deerfield Townships will now vote at the Malta UMC Youth Building, 115 Fourth Street, Malta, OH 43758, instead of the township building located on CR 3, in Triadelphia. This change will take effect for the November 5, 2019 General Election and all elections hereafter. For any questions or concerns, contact the Board of Elections office at 740-962-3116.

North River Road Landslide Repair

A landslide repair project began Wednesday (today), April 3, on North River Road (County Road 2A) in Morgan County. The project is taking place 0.32 miles north of SR 669. The road will be closed in this area. The detour is North River Road (County Road 2A) to SR 669 to Sharps Ridge Road (County Road 9). The estimated reopening date is July 31, 2019.

CR 35 Bridge Replacement

A bridge replacement project will begin Monday, April 1, on County Road 35, in Morgan County. The project is taking place 0.5 miles off of SR 78. The road will be closed in this area. The detour is Buck Run to SR 78 to Drake Road to Nichols Road. The estimated completion date is June 22, 2019.

4-H Board Easter Eggs On Sale

The Morgan County 4-H Board is now taking orders for chocolate covered cream-filled Easter eggs, until Tuesday, April 2. The club supports many activities in the county. The cost of a four-ounce egg is $2, and an eight-ounce egg is only $3.

Daylight Saving Time To Begin

Daylight Saving Time 2019, in the United States, will begin at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 10, and will end at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 3. When local standard time is about to reach 2 a.m. Sunday, March 10, clocks are turned forward one hour to 3 a.m. Sunday, March 10, local daylight time instead. Sunrise and sunset will be about one hour later, on March 10, than the day before. There will be more light in the evening.

New York City Bus Trip

The Honduras Missions Team is planning the perfect trip to New York City April 12-14. Spring will be in the air, with spring flowers and cherry blossoms in bloom. The second NYC trip fundraiser, sponsored by the Honduras Missions Team, is planned for next month and they have just a few spots remaining. They had a great turn out and fantastic feedback on the December trip, so you don’t want to miss this one. Rate includes bus fare and a night at the Empire Hotel, near Central Park.
