The Stockport Village Council met on May 11 at the HECK Harkins Community Center and opened with an invocation and the pledge of allegiance just as they always have. In fact, the good citizens on council conducted themselves with the usual respect for procedure and the sobriety we have come to expect from our leaders. Business was conducted, decisions were made, and issues were debated. Just like always. Well, not exactly. There was an empty chair at this council meeting because this was the first meeting in years that was not led by Mayor Cindy Travis who lost her battle with cancer the prior week.

Council President Donna Dixon has taken the oath of office and assumed the duties of Mayor for the remainder of the term. All members of council were present. In addition to the council, there were a small number of local citizens in attendance. Newly installed Mayor Dixon continued the tradition of allowing the people to be heard first before hearing from council.
