#ItsOkTo Not Be Ok – OSPF launches Back-To-School Campaign

The Ohio Suicide Prevention Founda­tion launched its back-to-school campaign to raise awareness around the anxiety, depression and thoughts of suicide that students, school staff, and parents may be experiencing this year due to COVID-19. The campaign aims at helping students, parents, teachers and others understand that it’s Ok – #ItsOkTo feel however you’re feeling – you are not alone.

B-W Virtual Bunny Hop a success

When Alyvia Oliver, a Waterford High School junior, submitted her drawing into the annual contest to design a shirt for the 2020 Bunny Hop, she had never heard of the coronavirus; no one had. Weeks later, the race was canceled, and then rescheduled in a new virtual format so that those local volunteer organizations could still benefit. On May 1, the virtual race ended with over 170 runners and walkers from all over the country participating. Each will receive a shirt with Alyvia’s design on the front in celebration of this year’s Bunny Hop.

Morgan Local canceling kindergarten screening

Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Morgan Local Schools will be canceling its kindergarten screening sched­uled for April 6, 7, 8, 2020. The screenings will be rescheduled at a later date. Call Leslie Robbins at 740-962-2782 for information.

Public school officials and advocates in Ohio are opposing the expansion of a state voucher program that would require local public tax dollars to pay for students to attend private schools.

Shrek Jr. performed this weekend by children’s theatre

The Carol Hammond Children’s Theatre will present their 4th annual production, Shrek the Musical Junior, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16 and 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, at the James D. McKinney Little Theatre at Morgan High School, located at 800 Raider Drive, McConnelsville.

Zane State College expands College Credit Plus offerings to Morgan High School

Beginning in fall of 2019, Zane State College will expand its Ohio College Credit Plus Program (CCP)* offerings at Maysville Local Schools, Morgan Local Schools and Noble Local Schools. The approved accreditation change now allows Zane State College to offer 50-percent or more of a degree at these three locations. The approval was granted by the Higher Learning Commission.

MVESC Awards Six Students with Scholarships

The Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center (MVESC) recently honored the Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Award finalists from each of the 15 school districts in Coshocton, Hocking, Morgan, Muskingum, and Perry counties and the Newcomerstown Exempted Village School District at the 30th Annual Student and Teacher Recognition Ceremony at Ohio University-Zanesville.

The Morgan County Children’s Theater has a new name. It is now The Carol Hammond Children’s Theatre (CHCT). This is the same group, same commitment to children, just a different name.
