Smith’s, Coon’s big night lifts Lady Raiders past Crooksville

Sophia Smith and Rilee Coon each had a big night to pace the Morgan Lady Raider basketball team to their first victory of the season in a 79-45 Muskingum Valley League victory at Crooksville. The Lady Raiders opened the year with an 80-54 MVL loss at Maysville.

Fort Frye was on the road to Sarahs­ville to take on the Shenandoah Zeps (7-1). The contest was set to be a good one of teams battling for postseason spots in their respective divisions. However, a stellar defense, allowing only one yard in the first half and an offense that was firing on all cylinders, quickly took those thoughts away in a 35-0 Cadet victory.

Raider soccer team's record-breaking season ends at district level

The Morgan Raider soccer team's record-breaking season came to an end on the turf at West Muskingum High School. The Raiders dropped a 5-1 decision to New Philadelphia in the Division II East District Semifinals. The Raiders ended the year at 12-7. The 12 wins are the most in school history.

Morgan soccer team overcomes adversity charging to sectional title

If the Morgan Raider Soccer team wanted a Division II Sectional title, they would have to become road warriors. The Raiders did just that with wins at Philo and at Wintersville Indian Creek to claim the program’s second sectional championship. In the process, Morgan broke the school record with its 12th win of the season, and Hayden Paige broke the record for points in a season.

The Morgan cross-country teams had their MVL meet at Foxfire High School in South Zanesville Saturday, Oct. 12. The weather was cold at around 45 degrees, with a strong breeze. The weather did not stop the runners from doing their best.

Morgan High School Homecoming is this Friday, Oct. 18. The parade starts off at 6 p.m. from the Malta Bible Church parking lot and heads out for the Athletic Field. The King and Queen will be announced before the game that evening.

The Fort Frye Cadets’ homecoming night game with two-time defending West Virginia Class A champ Wheeling Central Catholic was supposed to be an evenly matched contest. However, the Cadets were firing on all cylinders, posting their third shut out of the season in a 42-0 victory.
