George Ackley Curtis

George Ackley Curtis, 83, of Stockport, OH, passed away peacefully at 5:08 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at his home with his family by his side.

He was born Dec. 8, 1933, in Delaware, OH, the oldest of seven sons, to Walter and Nettie Curtis.

He retired from the United States Air Force after twenty-three years. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars and a member of the United States Air Force Thunderbirds Air Demonstration Team stationed at Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, NV.

He loved the Air Force and the Thunderbirds.

After retiring from the Air Force, he worked at the Clark County Community College in Las Vegas for twenty-six years. He became the superintendent of maintenance of two large college campuses and obtained associates degrees in his work field before retiring from the college.

He moved to Stockport, OH in 2013, to live with his son, George, and daughter-in-law, Ruth Curtis.

He attended the Stockport United Methodist Church.

He was married to Betty Curtis for fifty years, and he loved her until the day he died.

 

 

He is survived by his sons, George (Ruth) Curtis of Stockport and David Curtis of California; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Richard, Ty and Max Curtis.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Fred, Johnny and Edward; grandson, Jason Curtis; and granddaughter, Kimberly Curtis; and family, Evelyn and Shavey McElwee.

A caring cremation took place at his wishes, and a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017, at the United Methodist Church in Stockport.

Full Military Rites will be observed.

Miller-Huck Funeral Home has been in charge of arrangements.

George will be sadly missed, but he will forever be remembered as a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, and “Thunderbird.”
