Hope Ann Massey passed away from this life on Monday, Aug. 1, 2022, at the age of 94, surrounded by family at the home of her son-in-law and daughter.
She was born February 2, 1928, in Morgan County, to Stephen and Anna Slivka and grew up on the family farm with her eight siblings.
The children walked to their school in Unionville and attended high school in Reinersville. Hope was married to James Massey in 1947 until his death in September, 2008. They worked together on their farm while raising three children, many special pets, along with cattle, and a much loved horse. She was a gifted musician and played piano and organ along with Ruth Orr for many years at the Deerfield Presbyterian Church.
She was devoted to her family and was surrounded by good neighbors and friends. The many conversations around her kitchen table, flowers and listening to the birds outside her kitchen door brought her great joy, and the love of her Lord was an inspiration to those who were blessed to know her.
She is survived by her children, Bill (Janice) Massey, Raymond Massey, and Mary Ann (John) Curtis. She adored her grandchildren, Eddie (Krissy) Massey, Mark (Mandie) Massey, Naomi (Ryan) Hicks, Susanna Massey, Terrell (Jess) Massey, Daniel Ben (Andrea) Massey, Paul Massey, Patrick (Deniece) Massey, Morgan Massey, Romana (Seth) Foster, Sam (Austa) Massey, Sarah (Reilly) Foltz, Charlie Massey, and Esther (Kyle) Gram, Andy (Becky) Curtis, Stephen (Liz) Curtis, Luke (Marissa) Curtis, and Cliff (Kajun) Curtis; and 31 precious great-grandchildren.
Hope was preceded in death by her beloved parents and eight siblings, Steve, Mary, Agnes, Helen, Joe, John, Ann, and Alice; and daughter-in-law, Patricia Massey.
Friends may call from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022, at Deerfield Presbyterian Church, where services will follow at 2:30 p.m., with Pastor Galen Finley officiating.
She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Deerfield Cemetery.
